Feng Shui and Your Address

Let’s address Feng Shui and your address

How your address is displayed is very important in Feng Shui. We want that positive energy to find you. We say that if people can’t find you, then chi (energy) can’t find you. This is surprisingly common. Often people in this situation complain that opportunities don’t come their way.

If people have a hard time finding your address or are getting lost trying to get to you, this is something we would want to remedy. This goes for your home, apartment, or business. Often, when I go to a consultation, I end up driving right past where I am supposed to go, or I walk around trying to find the location.  If we humans are confused, then chi is confused, and we do not consider this to be optimum Feng Shui.

Feng Shui Tip

The numbers should be easily readable and in good shape.  This means they are not falling off the plaque, house, or structure or that part of them has been rubbed off. If you live in a house, make sure the numbers on your curb are nice and clear as well.  If you do live in a house, every so often you get someone taping a note to your front door or mailbox offering to refresh the painted numbers on your curb. If yours needs freshening up, I highly recommend taking advantage of that service. It is not expensive, and it is most definitely worth it from the Feng Shui point of view.

Feng Shui also involves safety

Feng Shui involves safety as well, and visible curb numbers are important. They allow emergency responders to see our address.

The direction also matters

We additionally want to pay attention to the direction of how we hang or display our address. It is best to have the address numbers placed either horizontally or going diagonally up to the right. We do not recommend hanging the numbers vertically or going down to the right.  Generally, we consider positive energy either flowing horizontally or upward. Downward energy is not considered favorable.

If your address is on the mailbox, that is fine, but it is a good idea to also have the address on the house or structure. If something were blocking the mailbox from view, or it were to get knocked over for some reason, then if the address is on the house, you are covered. There is also an energetic connection in having the address physically on the structure. There are certainly homes that are set way back from the road, and the mailbox is what is by the road, so you would want the numbers displayed on both in that case as well.

View your address as though you were a guest

Go out and view your address as though you are a guest or a delivery person. Make sure that the number truly is visible.  In the graphic of “Not Recommended Examples”, look at the one displaying the number 297.  If that shadow was not being cast, that address might be really hard to read. I actually think it still is. Even though the numbers are in good shape and hung correctly, the address is hard to see.  I have been in situations like that at consultations as well. Or the address is on the structure but it is not visible as you are approaching.

We want that chi, and those opportunities to find you. A great way to get that positive energy flowing towards you is to make sure that your address can be easily found and is in great shape.
